In 1935, Adolf Hermel sold the family's farm equipment and started A. H. Hermel Wholesale. Starting out in his garage, he built a company that would become the areas most well-known distribution company. At first, the business serviced small gas stations, ballrooms, hardware stores, and other niche markets. The philosophy was simple: Work harder, smarter, and longer than your competitor. While remaining true to our founding philosophies, Hermel Co. has expanded and changed with the times. Because we are a wholesale distribution company as well as a full line vending firm, we can offer our customers a larger variety of products, programs, and services to help them succeed. We are a fourth generation family business and in 2010 Hermel Co. will celebrate its 75th anniversary.
In September of 2008, A.H. Hermel Co. aquired the New Ulm Wholesale Company. New Ulm Wholesale, a broadline food distributor, was founded in 1916. Hermel Co. still operates the New Ulm office and warehouse space today, continuing a tradition of over 90+ years serving the community. Once a great competitor, the New Ulm Wholesale Company has given Hermel an increased catalog with over 2,000 additional products. Customers can still look forward to the annual NUW Food Show held each fall.
